The Nerdminer V2 is an ESP32 microcontroller miner (250 kH/s, under 1 watt, 48.99 EUR). The NerdNOS has up to 480,000x the hash rate. The NerdNOS is meant for serious solo mining, the Nerdminer V2 as a learning device and a lottery ticket.
- Which firmware runs on the NerdNOS? AxeOS (open source, a fork of ESP-Miner from the BitAxe ecosystem). The same firmware as in professional BitAxe miners.
- Can I really earn bitcoin with these? Both miners take part in solo mining. The chance of finding a block is small even on the NerdNOS, despite 400,000x the hash rate of the V2. Solo mining remains a game of luck. The devices are not a source of income; they are for learning, for the fascination and for the bitcoin lottery.
- How much electricity do the miners use? Nerdminer V2: under 1 watt (approx. 2.80 EUR a year). NerdNOS: approx. 8 watts (approx. 22 to 25 EUR a year at 0.32 EUR/kWh).
- Is the NerdNOS loud? The NerdNOS has an active fan and is audible on a desk, no louder than a laptop fan under load, but not recommended for a bedroom. The Nerdminer V2 by contrast is completely silent (passively cooled).
- Do I need prior knowledge? No. Both devices are preconfigured and work plug and play. On the NerdNOS you only enter your Wi-Fi name, your bitcoin wallet address and optionally a pool in the web UI.
- How long does shipping take? 2 to 3 business days within Germany (free with DHL GoGreen from 46 EUR), 3 to 5 business days to Austria and Luxembourg, 4 to 7 business days to Switzerland.
