What is a Nerdminer? expand_more
A Nerdminer is a small solo bitcoin miner built on an ESP32 microcontroller. It performs real SHA-256 calculations and takes part in the bitcoin network, like a ticket to the bitcoin network. The chance of finding a block is very small, but the prize would be 3.125 BTC.
How likely is it that my Nerdminer V2 actually finds a block? expand_more
Honestly: extremely unlikely. A single Nerdminer V2 delivers around 200 kH/s, while the bitcoin network as a whole sits above 800 EH/s. Statistically a single device would have to run for several thousand years to find a block on average.
That is exactly why the Nerdminer is not a source of income but a ticket to the bitcoin network. The chance is small, but real: somewhere in the global solo mining network a block is found roughly every 2 to 3 weeks, and in 2025 alone there were more than 22 solo block finds. Among them, repeatedly, hobby miners with a single small device.
Anyone buying a Nerdminer is mainly buying the hardware, the fun of mining and what they learn, plus a small but real shot at a block.
Does the Nerdminer come preinstalled? expand_more
Yes. Every Nerdminer from BitMiner24 arrives preconfigured and is ready to run in under 3 minutes. All you have to do is connect USB-C, join your Wi-Fi and enter your bitcoin wallet address.
How do I connect the Nerdminer? expand_more
The Nerdminer connects to a wall socket through a USB power adapter. Thanks to its very low power draw you can also run it straight from your laptop or a power bank. You can add a matching USB cable to your order for a straightforward start.
How much electricity does it use? expand_more
The Nerdminer V2 draws less than 1 watt. That works out at under 1 euro a year in electricity, less than an LED lamp.
Do I need technical knowledge? expand_more
No. The Nerdminer is plug & play and comes fully preconfigured. All you need is a USB-C cable and Wi-Fi. Our guide section holds more than 30 walkthroughs for every step.
Can I simply unplug and replug the Nerdminer? expand_more
Yes, the Nerdminer can be unplugged and replugged at any time. It saves your Wi-Fi and wallet settings and reconnects to the mining pool automatically on the next start.
What does the display show? expand_more
The OLED display cycles through several screens: block templates (the current mining task), KH/s (your hash rate), million hashes (the total of your calculations), valid blocks (valid blocks found), current block (current block height), network EH/s and current difficulty.
What is the NerdNOS and how does it differ from the Nerdminer V2? expand_more
The NerdNOS is a compact bitcoin solo miner with a real BM1397 ASIC chip, the same chip originally built into industrial Antminer S17 machines. It reaches roughly 80 to 120 GH/s at about 8 watts, some 480,000 times the hash rate of the Nerdminer V2 (250 kH/s, ESP32 microcontroller). The V2 is a learning device and a lottery ticket, the NerdNOS is the step up for solo mining enthusiasts. A direct comparison of all the specs: NerdNOS vs Nerdminer V2, the buying guide.
How loud is the NerdNOS fan in everyday use? expand_more
Audible, but quiet, comparable to a laptop fan turning gently at idle. No problem on a desk, less advisable in a bedroom. The active fan is physically necessary because the BM1397 ASIC produces considerably more heat at 8 W than the silent V2 microcontroller. If you need absolute silence, take the V2.
How much electricity does the NerdNOS use per year? expand_more
At around 7.8 watts in continuous operation (measured over 24 hours) that is about 70 kWh a year, or roughly 22 € a year at German household electricity prices (~30 ct/kWh). That puts the NerdNOS in the same class as a Wi-Fi router: fine in a living room and easy on the household budget. Full measurements and comparisons: NerdNOS power consumption, measured rather than estimated.
Do I need technical knowledge for the NerdNOS? expand_more
No. The NerdNOS comes as a complete set with power supply and USB-C cable. Setup runs entirely through the NerdNOS web interface in your browser: plug it in, join the setup Wi-Fi, enter your home Wi-Fi, pool and bitcoin address, done. If you have ever put a smart home bulb on your Wi-Fi, you will manage the NerdNOS in under 5 minutes. Step by step: setting up the NerdNOS.
