New Nerdminer firmware 1.8.3 — up to 40% more hash rate and zero disconnects

Release news · September 2025 · update for the stable branch

The Nerdminer community has released version 1.8.3, currently the most stable and highest-performing firmware for the Nerdminer V2. Anyone still running 1.7.x or older typically gains 30 to 40 percent more hash rate from the update, with no new hardware, no extra cost, installed in under five minutes.

The numbers at a glance

  • 241 KH/s average hash rate (previously 188 KH/s on 1.7.2)
  • 🔄 0 disconnects in a 24-hour endurance test (previously up to 4)
  • 🛠️ 5 to 10 KH/s more even compared to the previous 1.8.2
  • 📦 Binary size: just 1.2 MB
  • 💰 Cost: 0 €, the firmware is open source

The jump from 1.7.x to 1.8.3 is the largest hash rate gain in the history of the Nerdminer V2 so far. It is comparable to buying a new device, except it costs nothing and takes minutes. Even if you are already on 1.8.0 or 1.8.2 you benefit from the reworked stratum subscribe timing and the fully fixed Wi-Fi reconnect loop, which previously meant that in rare cases a Nerdminer never returned to mining after a brief internet outage.

What is new

The main changes in 1.8.3:

  • SHA-256 hashing kernel sped up by 3 to 5%
  • Wi-Fi reconnect loop finally fixed
  • Display flicker on the block win screen removed
  • Stratum subscribe timing stabilised
  • Memory footprint reduced by 12 KB

Who should update?

Every Nerdminer V2 owner. Whether you are on 1.6.x, 1.7.x or 1.8.2, moving to 1.8.3 is worth it in every case. It is particularly urgent for anyone whose Nerdminer has ever got stuck permanently offline after a Wi-Fi outage: that bug is fixed in 1.8.3.

Installation

Installation takes about 3 to 5 minutes and needs only Google Chrome plus a USB-C cable that carries data. The full step-by-step guide with the web flasher, macOS driver notes and troubleshooting is here:
