"Can I mine Bitcoin at home?" Thousands of Germans ask this question every year — and the answer is often surprising. Technically, Bitcoin mining at home is absolutely possible. Economically, it almost never makes sense. But there is exactly one category where home mining makes sense — and a few others where you'd better stay away. This guide debunks myths, honestly explains noise, heat, electricity costs, and tenancy law, and tells you what actually works in a typical German living room, basement, or garage.
The three dimensions of home mining
Whether Bitcoin mining at home is possible doesn't just depend on electricity prices and hashrate. There are three often-forgotten dimensions:

- Legal framework — tenancy law, neighborhood law, owners' association
Each of these dimensions can be a disqualifying criterion, even if the other two fit. Noise — the most underestimated factor
Bitcoin miners differ dramatically in their acoustics. The noise levels:

Power line and connection
German households are designed for 230 V Schuko sockets with 16 A fuse protection. This means a maximum continuous load of around 3,680 watts per socket. A single Antminer S21 with 3,500 watts thus occupies almost the entire capacity of one socket — and you cannot operate anything else on this circuit. Two Antminers on the same circuit would immediately trip the fuse.
