How to read the solo mining calculator

Your hash rate gives you a daily block chance, your lottery ticket on the bitcoin network, plus a few euros of electricity a year. If your device finds the block, the whole reward is yours: 3.125 BTC, roughly 195,000 €.

The solo mining formula

The daily block probability in solo mining is calculated like this:

P(block/day) = your hash rate / network hash rate × blocks per day

With the current values (as of April 2026):

  • Block reward: 3.125 BTC

What the block chance means

The block chance is your fair lottery ticket on the bitcoin network: every hash your device produces is an independent attempt and counts exactly as much as any hash from an industrial farm. The appeal is not in the average but in the full jackpot. If your miner finds the block, the entire reward of 3.125 BTC (around 195,000 €) is yours, however small the device is. There are individual documented finds by hobby hardware that showed exactly that.

Placed honestly: this is not guaranteed income, it is a lottery ticket. The few euros of electricity a year are your entry fee for taking part, plus everything you learn about bitcoin, pools and hashing while setting it up.

What does taking part cost you?

With the small miners this stays in the range of a few euros of electricity a year: a Nerdminer V2 comes to around 2.66 €/year, a NerdNOS to around 22 €/year. That is the manageable entry fee for keeping a ticket in the race permanently.

Running your own calculation

For your own calculation you only need 3 values:

  1. Your hash rate

    Shown on your miner's display or in the pool dashboard.

  2. Your electricity price

    On the annual statement from your electricity supplier (€ per kWh).

  3. Your power draw

    From the miner's data sheet or measured with an energy monitor (in watts).

Then you calculate:

  • Expected time to a block (days): 620,000,000,000,000,000,000 / (your_hash_rate_in_H/s × 144)
  • Annual electricity cost: power_draw_in_W × 8,760 / 1,000 × electricity_price_€_per_kWh

Common questions about the solo mining calculator

Why do my pool statistics not match the calculation?

Pool dashboards often show "estimated shares" or a "smoothed hash rate" that differs from the instantaneous value. The calculation here is based on the theoretical average hash rate and the current network difficulty.

Does the calculation change with the next halving?

Yes. After the next halving (2028) the block reward halves to 1.5625 BTC. The euro value of a block found halves at an unchanged BTC price, while the block probability itself stays the same.

How accurate are these calculations?

Mathematically sound, but the network hash rate swings by 5 to 10% daily. The figures given are snapshots. For an up-to-date calculation use the current values from blockchain.com.

Does the calculator apply to pool mining as well?

The block chance applies to pool mining too, except that there the pool finds the block rather than you alone, and the reward is split in proportion to the hash rate you contributed. In practice the pool works that out for you automatically.
